A Greenville man was found dead on his own church steps.

The details of how a man ended up dying on the steps of his church are a big foggy, but investigators are saying his death is suspicious.

Deputy Coroner Mike Ellis told WYFF the man’s body was found about 2:30 a.m. Monday morning in front of  the Long Branch Baptist Church on Bolt Street in Greenville, after he was badly beaten.

He identified the victim as 50-year-old Billy Joe Jamison, 50 and said he died after sustaining multiple blunt force injuries.

At this time, Ellis says they aren’t sure how he got the massive injuries.

The Greenville Police Department is investigating the death hoping that a surveillance camera set up at a business will shed some light on the incident.

In the mean time, members of the congregation remember Jamison as a friend as they step over the blood-stained steps.

“I just talked to him. He gave me a hug and told me he was glad to see me. He was a good guy. He will be missed,” said Chiles.
