Spartanburg County officials have announced they are working with Amazon to hopefully open a distribution plant, but before it’s signed off on, the county will have to negotiate some perks to encourage the online retailer to call Sparkle City home, so says a report by The State.
Sound familiar? It should. Officials in Lexington County recently went to battle with local businesses and Amazon to lock in a deal for the Cayce plant.
Spartanburg County’s project is expected to be a $50 million investment by the distributor, according to council officials.
But, as most Amazon deals, that $5o mil will come with a hefty price tag.
Cayce’s initial $90 million investment, which Amazon has promised will turn into $163 million and produce 2,000 jobs eventually, cost the county quite a bit. Land deals and tax exemptions were the most controversial.
Officials say Spartanburg’s agreement on economic incentives could be completed in the next few days and will be made public after final approval.
Amazon has not commented on the possibility of a Spartanburg facility.
