Where is an Horry County detention center escapee? Here in Greenville?

A man who was locked up in Horry County has escaped from prison after posing as another inmate who'd been released on prison kicking off a area-wide search for the man.

Charles Dwight Ransom

Somehow it’s kind of amazing how something can just whisk by you. A moment, a memory, and for a group of Horry County detention center guards, an inmate.

A report by ABC News 4 says police are looking for a man who simply walked out of a jail in Conway.

Horry County officials say that 37-year-old Charles Dwight Ransom has been missing since Monday, when he posed as another inmate who’s release from the J. Reuben Long Detention Center had been scheduled after he posted bond.

Authorities say Ransom got out by switching identification armbands with Nathaniel Martinez, who was arrested along with Ransom earlier this month, for drug charges.

Martinez has now been charged with aiding an escapee.

The Horry County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in finding Ransom and warn police that he should be considered dangerous and members of the public should not approach the man.

Hope he enjoyed his Thanksgiving turkey wherever he is.
