Former Lakeview Middle School teacher accused of molestation from almost 30 years ago.

Most people can barely remember what they had for lunch yesterday, but one woman says a traumatic experience has been with her for almost 30 years and she’s finally ready to do something about it.

A report by WYFF 4 says a woman who was a student of former Lakeview Middle School teacher William Terry Broadus says that, between 1984-1986, she was molested by the man. Most of the incidents happened off-campus, but she confirmed that at least one incident happened on school grounds.

And, police think her story and recollection are strong enough to warrant the arrest of her former teacher and current assistant principal.

“A lot of it is going to be based off the statements, and the recollection, and all that and, again, we can’t go into a lot of details or what the investigation did yield,” said Master Deputy Jennings Autrey.

There is no word on why it took the woman so long to come forward. She is now 41 and was 14 at the time of the alleged molestation. But, Autrey says if there are others, anyone else who was abused by the man, they could speak up, too.

“If there are additional victims, or if somebody believes they’re a victim, or if they were involved in some type of situation, please give us a call and let us know.”

The school district placed Broadus on administrative leave when they were made aware of the allegations.

“The school district was informed this afternoon that a Greenville County Schools employee, William Broadus, has been charged by the Sheriff’s Department for alleged incidents in the mid-1980s involving sexual misconduct with a minor. Mr. Broadus was a teacher at Lakeview Middle School from 1983-1988. Mr. Broadus is currently serving as assistant principal at Chandler Creek Elementary, where he has served since August 2000.

“Broadus was placed on administrative leave on Sept. 16, when the administration was first notified by the Greenville County Sheriff’s Department that he was under investigation,” a statement by the school district read.

Broadus is charged with second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor and lewd act on a child under 16.

A judge set bond on Broadus at a total of $30,000.
